Meet the Team

Mark
Founder/Swim Teacher
Hi, my name is Mark; I am a fully qualified level 2 swim teacher with many years of experience at Wigston Leisure Centre, teaching up to 350 children a week with a large age range from beginners to competitive swimming level. I teach most of the schools around the Wigston area and I have developed a big following in my time there. I love teaching, being around the pool is my life, and working with children to learn new skills is the best job ever. When I teach, every second counts to ensure progress is made, I make lessons fun with structure. I believe you have to make the children feel comfortable, confident and smile when swimming.

Dawn
Swim Teacher
Hi, my name is Dawn; I have been a fully qualified swim teacher for almost 26 years. I am also qualified to teach disability swimming plus baby and toddlers. I have taught many schools over the years. I have taught at Aylestone, Braunstone and Wigston pools. I am so lucky that I love teaching swimming, I love to help nervous pupils both adults and children blossoming into swimmers. I am both a parent and grandparent. My teaching style is firm but fair. I have decided to come and work alongside my friend Mark as we share the same ethos and values.

Luke

Hi, I'm Luke, a 25-year-old swim instructor with 8 years of teaching experience. From beginners to advanced swimmers, I'm here to guide children with patience, encouragement and fun.

Amazing! My daughter and my little boy have started recently prior to this my son has hated swimming and always clung on to me. By lesson 3 he’s already trying to swim on his own! Mark, Luke and Dawn have always been so patient and always made it fun! So glad we’ve started swimming lessons wouldn't recommend anyone else Thank you so much and we look forward to our weekly lessons!

Mark and his team have worked absolute wonders on my 4 year old daughter, who for no reason in particular was petrified of swimming pools, she has gone from strength to strength and is now happily learning to swim and looking forward to her lessons every Tuesday. Thanks again Marks Sharks

Where to start Luke and Mark are amazing with my little boy. He is anxious when it comes to the water but they have really helped him enjoy the water. They both make the lessons fun and enjoyable on top of learning that life skill. I wouldn't go anywhere else both fantastic.

Terms and Conditions
IMPORTANT:
These are the terms and conditions on which Mark’s Sharks Swim School provide swimming lessons to you, the customer. Participation in any swimming class is considered an agreement of these terms and conditions. Please read them carefully. We require all parents and swimmers to adhere to these.
1. BOOKINGS & PAYMENT Bookings are taken on a first come, first served basis. We require payment in full to secure the booking. Due to high demand for lessons, prompt payment within 24 hours is required otherwise you risk losing your slot. Accepted payment methods are either bank transfer or cash. Re-enrolment invoices need to be paid by the deadline on the invoice as non-payment will terminate your child’s slot. You will then need to contact admin via email to re-enrol which will incur a £10 late payment/re-joining fee. Swimmers will not be able to participate in the lesson if payment has not been made. On receipt of invoice please check the details are correct, name, address, date, time, and Stage of lesson. Correct payment amount and due date of invoice. Lessons are payable in blocks, as stated on the invoice. All lessons need to be paid for, including missed lessons due to illness or holiday. Lessons missed due to conditions requiring medical treatment, where a Consultant/Hospital Clinic letter can be provided, will be credited to the next payment block.
2. PHOTOGRAPHY There must be no filming, recording or photography equipment, including mobile phones used within the pool area. This is in accordance with child protection and safeguarding policies.
3. LESSON TIMES Please do not enter poolside until your allocated lesson time. This is for the safety of the students and prevents overcrowding in the pool area.
4. CHANGES TO LESSONS Any changes to lesson days or times must be done through the admin team, who will discuss availability. This includes progressing through the Stages, once the swim teacher has told you that your child is ready to move up to the next Stage of swimming. We follow the Swim England’s teaching guidelines.
5. POOL SAFETY & SUPPORTING CHILDREN IN THE POOL Our swim teachers conduct their lessons in the pool. Due to the nature of swimming and the young age of our pupils it is both safer and more reassuring for the children and parents to have the teacher in the pool with them. It may occasionally be necessary for the teacher to support or hold the child during the lessons to assist the teaching process.
6. LESSON CONDUCT Please can everyone respect the lessons taking place and ensure noise is kept to a minimum whilst lessons are in progress. This is distracting for the teacher and unsafe for the children. Please refrain from interrupting or giving instructions. This can be confusing for the child as we use progressive float practices that target specific actions/strokes, and they need to be following the teachers’ instructions. If you want to discuss your child’s progress, please do so afterwards.
7. VIOLENCE & AGGRESSION We expect our customers to behave in a considerate manner. Violence and aggression both verbal and physical will not be tolerated and swimming lessons will be terminated.
8. POOL RULES -No food or drink is to be consumed on the poolside. -Indoor shoes or disposable overshoes are to be worn. -Please do not sit on the sunbeds as these are for members of Abbey Sports and Leisure. -Children remain the responsibility of the parents/guardian who attend with them. Parents/guardians need to remain on the premises whilst their child is having their lesson.
